COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT VITAL TO THE LIFE OF KIRKWOOD
The church family has committed its facilities and support to the Family Promise of Manatee County. Our Director of Christian Education, Diana Shoemaker, serves as the current President of the Board and is active in developing this program to ease homelessness for families in our community. The church will be a host church and provide housing for one week for families on a rotating basis with nine other churches in the area.
On special holidays, meals are prepared and delivered to Hospice patients.
Thanksgiving and Christmas Food Baskets are supplied through the Family Partnership Organization. Angel Tree gifts for the children of prisoners is a Christmas project.
Manatee Religious Services is a vital part of our community mission support program. Through them we are able to discern appropriate need for families and individuals and distribute help from special funds. (see Community – Those in Need)
The Blood Mobile comes to Kirkwood on a regularly scheduled basis on Sunday mornings from 8:00 AM until 12:00 noon. 2007 dates: June 3, August 5, October 7 and December 2
A concert series open to the public is presented between October and March. Past artists have included the Perlman Student Recital, Manatee Community Band, Bay Chorale, Melody Booth Orchestra as well as many others. (see Music – Concert Series)
The last Sunday of each month, members of the congregation serve lunch at Our Daily Bread on 14th Street West. This is a service in which we have helped for a number of years. Our Daily Bread is also an important part of our Mission giving.
Many other individual and group activities within the community are supported by time, talent and giving by our members.
